Our Roots

From Humble Beginnings to Sustainable Growth

Cascade Cuts’ Journey of Innovation, Environmental Commitment, and Community Connection

Origins

In the summer of 1980, two young farmers grew their first round of cut flowers to sell to local markets. Nestled between the foothills of the Cascade Mountains and the Puget Sound, they planted the seeds of what would grow to become Cascade Cuts. Through their ambitious drive and passion for plants, they helped to cultivate a thriving business known for its unique plants and environmental conservation. Although the faces have changed over the years, one thing has stayed a constant: Cascade Cuts Nursery’s reputation for high-quality plants; and commitment to the environment.

New Leadership

In the spring of 2018, Cascade Cuts was sold to Bizu Getachew, whose background as a self-made entrepreneur, mother and refugee is one to marvel at. Bizu is deeply passionate about improving human health through the joy of growing plants. She has a vision to expand Cascade Cuts’ plant production and year-round business. She is exploring the addition of micro-greens for grocery stores and restaurants, cut flowers, and increased plant production.

Growing with Care

We now grow a wide variety of potted perennial and annual flowers, forced bulbs, culinary herbs, and succulents. We employ sustainable methods for the production of all our crops, including but not limited to beneficial insects, banker plants, ebb-and-flood irrigation, compost tea applications, organic soil and the minimal use of low impact pesticides. These methods match values of the community around us and have earned us numerous environmental awards and certifications over the years.

Looking Ahead

The management and staff at Cascade Cuts are very excited for what is in store for us, but like any good farmer knows, roots are important too. We greatly appreciate all the hard work and dedication that it has taken us to get here – and we are looking forward to the future.

Thank You

Most importantly, we would not be here without our wonderful customers.
Thank you for your continued support and patronage!
